Jallikattu Protestors Push Back, Defy Police Orders To Leave Chennai's Marina Beach

CHENNAI:  Thousands protesting peacefully at
Chennai's Marina Beach for over five days in support of bull-taming festival Jallikattu were removed this morning by the police, a day after some of them threatened to block Republic Day celebrations. All roads to the beach were blocked as the police bundled out large groups, mainly of women and children. Students formed human chains, resisting the police and refusing to budge. On Sunday, Jallikattu returned to parts of the state following an ordinance or executive order passed by Tamil Nadu on Saturday to bypass a Supreme Court ban on the sport. Three men were killed during the celebrations.
Here are the latest developments in this big story.
  1. A large contingent of police arrived at the Marina Beach around 5 am today and started removing protesters.
  2. The beach, where around 15,000 had gathered at the height of protests last week, was mostly clear within hours.
  3. The protesters had refused to move out even after the state's ordinance as they demanded a permanent solution.
  4. The ordinance has to be cleared within six months for it to become law. Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has promised that it will be passed in the assembly session which begins today.
  5. On Sunday, as Jallikattu was held in parts of Tamil Nadu, two men were gored to death by a bull at Pudukottai, where the event was inaugurated by state Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar. A third man reportedly died of thirst at another event.
  6. At Madurai's Alanganallur, where Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was expected to inaugurate the Jallikattu event, people refused to allow it, demanding that the ban be removed permanently first.
  7. Alanganallur, around 400 km from state capital Chennai, is the only place where Jallikattu is held as a function of the government. Jallikattu being held there would make its return official.
  8. All Tamil Nadu ministers were to inaugurate Jallikattu in their districts on Sunday as the Chief Minister urged everyone to make the events across Tamil Nadu "a grand success by participating in large numbers."
  9. At Chennai's Marina beach, thousands have protested peacefully but some said yesterday that they will not allow the Republic Day parade on the adjoining Beach Road until Jallikattu is permanently back.
  10. Jallikattu, in which young men wrestle with a bull in an open field during the harvest festival of Pongal, was banned by the Supreme Court in 2014. Last year, the Centre allowed the sport, but that decision has been challenged in the Supreme Court. The court has agreed to not deliver its verdict this week after the centre pointed out that a decision could create law and order problems.

Alert !!! Jallikattu Returns As Tamil Nadu Governor Approves Ordinance

Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao has approved the Jallikattu ordinance by Tamil Nadu government
CHENNAI:  After a three year long ban, Jallikattu will finally be held across Tamil Nadu today. Governor Vi
dyasagar Rao has approved an executive order or ordinance by the state government which will allow the bull-taming sport to be held in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said this evening. The chief minister is now headed to Alanganallur in Madurai to inaugurate Jallikattu celebrations today, which were banned by the Supreme Court in 2014. Thousands of people, who have been protesting at Chennai's Marina beach since Tuesday evening, had said they will not disperse till the ban is officially lifted.
Here are the top 10 developments in this story:
  1. All Tamil Nadu ministers will inaugurate Jallikattu in their districts today at 11 am. "I urge the youths, students and the general public to make the Jallikattu events across Tamil Nadu a grand success by participating in large numbers," the chief minister said.
  2. Mr Panneerselvam said the assent of President Pranab Mukherjee to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 by Tamil Nadu was received on Friday night. "The assent for the ordinance (amending the PCA Act) has been obtained from Govenor also," he said, adding, "our dream to conduct Jallikattu this year has come true."
  3. He said a draft Bill to replace the ordinance and amend the PCA Act paving the way for holding Jallikattu without any hindrance will be introduced and adopted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly's session which begins on January 23.
  4. The state government is also exploring legal avenues to ban animal rights organisation PETA in Tamil Nadu, which has lobbied against the festival.
  5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Saturday said that all efforts are being made to fulfil the cultural aspirations of Tamil people. "We are very proud of the rich culture of Tamil Nadu," PM Modi said in a tweet, adding, "Central Government is fully committed to the progress of Tamil Nadu and will always work to ensure the state scales new avenues of progress.
  6. The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to not deliver its verdict in the next week, as requested by the centre, which pointed out that a decision could create law and order problems. Jallikattu, which sees young men wrestling with a bull in an open field during the harvest festival of Pongal, was banned by the Supreme Court in 2014.
  7. Animal rights activists say bulls are abused, tortured, taunted with chillis flung in their eyes, and are doped on liquor. Lakhs in Tamil Nadu say that's not correct and that those who oppose Jallikattu do not understand the region's culture or respect it.
  8. Last year, the centre allowed the sport, but that decision has been challenged in the Supreme Court. Pongal was held last week. Hundreds of people who defied the ban to hold local competitions in parts of Tamil Nadu were arrested, triggering a massive backlash.
  9. Students took the lead in rallying people across the state. In Chennai, on the shoreline, they gathered in thousands, their numbers growing everyday with the extensive use of social media. Students have ensured that the protests remain apolitical and peaceful. Many of the demonstrators have helped clean up litter along the beach. Politicians who tried to join the mass demonstration were asked to leave.
  10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Thursday had indicated that though the centre cannot intervene while the Supreme Court is deciding on ending the ban, his government will support measures taken by the state.

What Is the Difference Between Narcolepsy Type 1 and Type 2?

Cataplexy and Hypocretin Testing Can Differentiate the Sub-Types
Narcolepsy is always characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, but there are other sympto
ms and test results that are used to differentiate the sub-types of the condition. There are two types of narcolepsy, but what is the difference between narcolepsy type 1 and type 2? Learn about these differences, including the role of cataplexy and testing for hypocretin levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Symptoms of Narcolepsy May Differentiate Sub-Types

Both types of narcolepsy include an irrepressible need to sleep or daytime lapses into sleep. Without sleepiness, narcolepsy is not the proper diagnosis. There are some other associated symptoms, and some of these can help to differentiate the sub-types.
There are two types of narcolepsy: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 may include the presence of the symptom of cataplexy. Cataplexy is defined as more than one episode of brief, usually symmetrical sudden loss of muscle tone with retained consciousness. This weakness may be provoked by strong emotions. These emotions are usually positive; for example, cataplexy may be associated with laughter. The weakness may involve the face, arms, or legs. Some narcoleptics will have droopy eyelids, mouth opening, tongue protrusion, or head bobbing. Some people can collapse to the ground during an attack of cataplexy.
Both types of narcolepsy may also include sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations. Fragmented sleep at night often occurs in both conditions as well.

The Role of Testing for Hypocretin and the MSLT

Specific testing can also be used to differentiate between the two sub-types of narcolepsy. Excessive daytime sleepiness is determined based on the results of a multiple sleep latency test (MSLT).
This test follows a standard sleep study and includes four or five nap opportunities that occur at 2-hour intervals. The subject is given an opportunity to sleep, and people with narcolepsy will fall asleep in less than 8 minutes on average. In addition, REM sleep will occur within 15 minutes of sleep onset in at least two of the nap opportunities.
Moreover, testing of the hypocretin levels in the CSF fluid as part of a lumbar puncture can be revealing. If the levels are measured to be less than 110 pg/mL, this is consistent with a diagnosis of type 1 narcolepsy. If the levels are normal (or not measured) and cataplexy is not present, type 2 narcolepsy is diagnosed if the MSLT is positive. If the hypocretin level is measured to be abnormal later, or if cataplexy subsequently develops, the diagnosis can be changed to type 1.
Though narcolepsy is a rare condition, it occurs commonly enough, with type 1 affecting about 1 in 5,000 people. The diagnosis should be made by a sleep specialist who is able to apply the proper testing and subsequently provide effective treatment.
If you are concerned that you may have symptoms of narcolepsy, seek further evaluation by a sleep expert who can provide you the care and support that you need.

What is the best way to whiten teeth at home?

Mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting enamel.
This home remedy is for curing yellow teeth and turning them white almost instantly. No need to use any drastic chemicals, this is a very natural and economical way to treat your teeth. You’ll most likely already have most of the ingredients at home. Most of the treatments you’ll find on the market today have originated with these exact same ingredients. And no, you don’t even touch baking powder which is very abrasive and will strip the enamel off your teeth. I only recommend this treatment once a day. Anything more than that and it’ll upset your stomach and give you other problems. And once you have the desired color to your teeth, then you can use this once a week or once every second week to maintain it. And one more thing. In order for this home remedy for curing yellow teeth to be fully effective, the broccoli should really be organic. And make sure the bananas are well ripe, there should be no green in the skin. Taking Care of Your Teeth and Mouth

Tooth Decay

Teeth are covered in a hard, outer coating called enamel. Every day, a thin film of bacteria called dental plaque builds up on your teeth. The bacteria in plaque produce acids that can harm enamel and cause cavities. Brushing and flossing your teeth can prevent decay, but once a cavity forms, a dentist has to fix it.
Use fluoride toothpaste to protect your teeth from decay. If you are at a higher risk for tooth decay (for example, if you have a dry mouth because of a condition you have or medicines you take), you might need more fluoride. Your dentist or dental hygienist may give you a fluoride treatment during an office visit or may tell you to use a fluoride gel or mouth rinse at home.

Gum Disease

Gum disease begins when plaque builds up along and under your gum line. This plaque causes infections that hurt the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place. Gum disease may make your gums tender and more likely to bleed. This problem, called gingivitis, can often be fixed by brushing and flossing every day.
A more severe form of gum disease, called periodontitis, must be treated by a dentist. If not treated, this infection can ruin the bones, gums, and other tissues that support your teeth. Over time, your teeth may have to be removed.
To prevent gum disease:
  • Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss once a day.
  • Visit your dentist regularly for a checkup and cleaning.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet.
  • Quit smoking. Smoking increases your risk for gum disease.

How to Clean Your Teeth and Gums

There is a right way to brush and floss your teeth. Every day:
  • Gently brush your teeth on all sides with a soft-bristle brush and fluoride toothpaste.
  • Use small circular motions and short back-and-forth strokes.
  • Brush carefully and gently along your gum line.
  • Lightly brush your tongue to help keep your mouth clean.
  • Clean around your teeth with dental floss. Careful flossing removes plaque and leftover food that a toothbrush can’t reach.
  • Rinse after you floss.
People with arthritis or other conditions that limit hand motion may find it hard to hold and use a toothbrush. Some helpful tips are:
  • Use an electric or battery-operated toothbrush.
  • Slide a bicycle grip or foam tube over the handle of the toothbrush.
  • Buy a toothbrush with a larger handle.
  • Attach the toothbrush handle to your hand with a wide elastic band.
See your dentist if brushing or flossing causes your gums to bleed or hurts your mouth. If you have trouble flossing, a floss holder may help. Ask your dentist to show you the right way to floss.

Use floss between upper teeth.

Dentures

Sometimes, false teeth (dentures) are needed to replace badly damaged teeth. Partial dentures may be used to fill in one or more missing teeth. Dentures may feel strange at first. In the beginning, your dentist may want to see you often to make sure the dentures fit. Over time, your gums will change shape, and your dentures may need to be adjusted or replaced. Be sure to let your dentist handle these adjustments.
Be careful when wearing dentures, because it may be harder for you to feel hot foods and drinks or notice bones in your food. When learning to eat with dentures, it may be easier if you:
  • Start with soft, non-sticky food.
  • Cut your food into small pieces.
  • Chew slowly using both sides of your mouth.
Keep your dentures clean and free from food that can cause stains, bad breath, or swollen gums. Brush them every day with a denture-care product. Take your dentures out of your mouth at night, and soak them in water or a denture-cleansing liquid.

Dry Mouth

Dry mouth happens when you don’t have enough saliva, or spit, to keep your mouth wet. It can make it hard to eat, swallow, taste, and even speak. Dry mouth can accelerate tooth decay and other infections of the mouth. Many common medicines can cause this problem.
There are things you can do that may help. Try sipping water or sugarless drinks. Don’t smoke, and avoid alcohol and caffeine. Sugarless hard candy or sugarless gum that is a little tart may help. Your dentist or doctor might suggest using artificial saliva to keep your mouth wet.

Oral Cancer

Cancer of the mouth can grow in any part of the mouth or throat. It is more likely to happen in people over age 40. A dental checkup is a good time for your dentist to look for signs of oral cancer. Pain is not usually an early symptom of the disease. Treatment works best before the disease spreads. Even if you have lost all your natural teeth, you should still see your dentist for regular oral cancer exams.
You can lower your risk of getting oral cancer in a few ways:
  • Do not use tobacco products, such as cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, chewing tobacco, snuff, pipes, or cigars.
  • If you drink alcohol, do so only in moderation.
  • Use lip balm with sunscreen.

Finding Low-Cost Dental Care

Dental care can be costly. Medicare does not cover routine dental care, and very few States offer dental coverage under Medicaid. You may want to check out private dental insurance for older people. Make sure you are aware of the cost and what services are covered.

How to Buy Life Insurance

Getting life insurance is a relief, but it can also be stressful. This advice will help you become knowledgeable on getting the best policy, without spending too much or losing out on valuable coverage.

When applying for life insurance, you will need to fully disclose any type of high-risk activities you participate in, whether it’s a job or a hobby. It will cost more money but it will help you stay covered. In addition, not disclosing this information might be considered to be fraud, which carries large penalties.

In the event you don’t advise your beneficiaries of their status, there is a possibility they’ll never know you even have a life insurance policy. When this happens your life insurance plan will probably go unclaimed. This is of no help to you and your family members.

However, if you think maybe you’re eligible for unclaimed benefits, there are several options you could take to find out if you have any. You can take a look at your loved one’s financial data, maybe speak with his/her financial adviser if he or she had one. There are also third party companies, such as http://lisac.com, specializing in locating unclaimed insurance plans.

Your best bet would be to work with a financial adviser instead of a broker in order to get the best deal possible. A broker often earns a standard commission through the act of selling insurance, which creates a reason to lie or manipulate for profit. The difference is that financial advisers get paid one price. This makes a financial adviser more likely to sell you a policy based solely on your needs, and not on the amount of commission he will earn.

Don’t buy life insurance until you’ve taken the time to look around and compare policies. Believe it or not, some premium costs vary as much as 50% depending on which company you decide to go with. This is why it’s very important to comparison shop. You should also be sure that the individual quotes you receive have taken your medical history into consideration.

Whether you’re young or old, single or have a family, taking out life insurance is something you should consider as long as anyone depends on you. Should you pass away, a life insurance policy can enable your spouse to pay off the mortgage or provide your children with a college education.

A lot of insurers will offer you premiums that can save you up to 40% off of other policies. Take advantages of online resources for the purpose of comparing price quotes from a range of carriers, and make certain to use tools that are able to take your specific medical situation into consideration, when preparing estimates.

Get a lot of quotes when looking for life insurance. Insurance providers use varying scales for determining rates. If you smoke, you will encounter different rates of insurance quoted by different companies, so spend some time in evaluating a number of quotes before you make a decision.

Use the Internet to your advantage as you shop for life insurance. Many websites offer price quotes from dozens of national insurance providers, and include customer reviews and overviews. Insure.com, Insweb and Accuquote are three good places to start.

If you want to save money when you get life insurance, try purchasing a larger amount. Sometimes your life insurance premium may be lower if you purchase more coverage.

As indicated by this article, life insurance is more complicated than many may believe. You will need to do a ton of research and ask many questions, but in the end it is going to be worth it to help out your family. By following the above tips, you are well on your way to buying your perfect policy.
